Testimonials

I have been taking my 6 year old granddaughter, to your Sunday lessons, and my 4 year old grandson comes along.

My comment is that your rink, your people, your volunteers – everything about Ted Reeve Area is much more than anyone could hope for in the City of Toronto. Not only are your coaches and the lessons provided, the best I have ever witnessed, the young skaters are thrilled to be there.

The cost is minimal, parking available, everything run on schedule and with a professionalism I have not seen in a very long time.

I grew up in Northern Ontario (Cochrane) and we know almost everything concerning Tim Horton, including the fact he, like the rest of us, never owned a new pair of skates.

This amazing opportunity for our young people to learn to skate and then onto hockey, taught by professional and competent coaches and young helpers, in a city of this size and at such a minimal cost,  is much appreciated and we are grateful.

Thank you for all your goodwill, hard work and interest in these young “hockey players” and for the accommodation you provide for them.  They, and we, the parents, grandparents, are most fortunate that Ted Reeve Arena provides this opportunity to our youth.

On behalf of my family, please relay my heartfelt appreciation for the kindness, patience and expertise all of the volunteers have extended to my son this past year….it took him a very long time to build the confidence to participate and often he still marches to his own drummer…but he was received each Sunday with such grace and happiness from everyone he stuck with it and has come along quite nicely.
With so many thanks!

I bring my grandson each week and next year he will be joined by his sister. The school is an invaluable resource the neighbourhood children and its proximity means it is available to parents and grandparents who do not have an automobile.

It is the highlight of my son’s weekend and he has improved from beginner to a very good skater for his age – thanks mostly to the School and it’s instructors.  I hope to continue his development with this school for years to come!

My son participated last year and this year in the skating lessons. He started at age 5 and could not even stand up. Thanks to the skill, encouragement and commitment of the instructors, he is now a very competent skater.

We have tried skating lessons for our son with two other organizations, both of which failed to meet the calibre of teaching available at Ted Reeve Hockey and Skating School. Our son thoroughly enjoyed being taught by Randy and his clan last year. This year, he’s progressed significantly and is now is in the top skill level. Not only have his skating skills increased, but also his confidence has increased 10-fold this season. Thank you, Ted Reeve skating instructors!  The enthusiasm displayed by the instructors and the quality of the teaching are second to none.

My son has benefitted tremendously from the school in terms of his hockey but it is also the great coaching and encouragement that he has received that has made me happy as a parent.  I am planning on having my daughter enroll in the school next season as I cannot envision a better setting for her first foray into the hockey world.  This is the only type of hockey instruction of its kind that I have been able to find in the east end – the fact that it is volunteer run and the cost is extremely reasonable – makes it accessible to so many parents whose kids are not “rep” calibre players.  It means that we can get ice time for kids that are not normally supported in our “elite calibre hockey focussed times”.

This program provides much needed ice time, skating practice and skills development and was very important for my two older children (9 & 7) to learn to skate and play hockey.  They are now able to play at the select level in NYHL thanks to the extra development. I’m counting on having this program still available for my youngest child (4 years old).  With three boys in hockey the reasonable cost of this program is a real benefit, plus the time (12-3) is ideal because it doesn’t conflict with house league and select schedules.  Ted Reeve Arena is 5 minutes from our house so its wonderful to have a great program like this in our community and I’ve recommending it to all our friends and fellow hockey parents.

My son (aged 6) has participated in the skating school for two years and I have been exceptionally pleased  with the professionalism, friendship and skills shown by everyone associated with this organization. The Ted Reeve Skating/Hockey School has helped my son to develop new friendships, gain confidence and learn many skills central to skating but also to life. These include perseverance, fair play and a willingness to take on new challenges. What pleases me most however is the manner in which each volunteer instructor has repeatedly taken time to offer a word of encouragement, a smile, a quick tip for instruction and a patient approach that has helped my son to learn at his own speed. The instructors clearly enjoy the work they are doing and their results are evident in the smiles of each child and the clear progress made by participants on a year to year basis. My son looks forward to each Sunday session and often looks to practice for it (in advance) by also going to the Ted Reeve free skate that takes place on Saturday evenings.  It is my belief that the Ted Reeve Arena Skating and Hockey School plays a valuable community role helping children and youth. The price point for their service is not out of range of families regardless of their economic level and the timing of the sessions (Sunday afternoon) is ideal in that it falls between lunch and dinner allowing for errands/appointments to be completed in the morning prior to the session while also supporting any family activities that need to take place later in the day (including dinner, homework etc.).

My six-year old son has participated in the skating school for two years. At first, he was reluctant to attend – his only prior experience with skating had been through a city-run parks & rec program. The difference between that program and the Ted Reeve Arena Skating-Hockey School is night and day. At Ted Reeve, the volunteer coaches are cheerful, helpful and genuinely interested in the kids. My son started out very slowly, and his coach spent extra time with him, encouraging him and showing him how much fun skating could be. By the end of each lesson, my son would be tired, but really happy – he felt like he accomplished something every week. Now he looks forward to skating every Sunday – something I’m sure would never have happened without Ted Reeve.  Ted Reeve runs their program in a professional manner and the registration process is smooth and painless. The cost is incredibly reasonable for the quality of the program. The ice times are convenient and suitable for working parents and their children. It works, and it works well.

My son is 7 years old and has just started with the hockey skills this year.  It has been incredible to see how he has improved as a skater and this is all do to the wonderful service that Ted Reeves provides.  The hockey skills course is the most cost effective class out there and it allowed us to enroll him in the course even though I am currently on maternity leave.

My son has participated in this incredible program for over a year now.  We have witnessed the most remarkable transformation in our son and the credit is solely due to the Ted Reeve Skating-Hockey school. He is the kind of kid who loves the sport of hockey but lacked the balance, confidence and skill to progress with his skating skills. We enrolled him in many series of city run programs with no success and saw an increase in frustration and tears. Within TWO lessons at the Ted Reeve Skating-Hockey School, my son started to feel like he could skate. From that day on he has improved his skills consistently every week. Without the skating school my son would not be able to enjoy learning the game of hockey in house league.  The staff are very clear, supportive and consistent with their instructions. I have never seen such co-operation and follow through with a young group of kids. When I heard that the staff were volunteers, I almost fell off my chair. The staff ALL wear a permanent smile, find a way to make each kid feel as if they are doing well and the kids have a great time.  I have also witnessed other children dramatically transform before my eyes. Especially the “older” ones that are usually in house league.  This skating school provides an opportunity for all children of all abilities, boys and girls to learn skating in the most energetic and effective manner in the city of Toronto. The value that this program provides also increases the accessibility for families that must be diligent in choosing a good program at a low cost.

My 6 year old son has made great strides by attending the school since last year in January.  He has gone from the Beginner class and just recently has graduated up into the group closest to the Snack Bar.  The group of instructors are absolutely fantastic with the children.  Just to watch the kids faces as they skate around, all with smiles.  You can see the determination in their faces of needing to learn and afterward the satisfaction of knowing they are making strides each week.  Each instructor is so beneficial as each one has their own specialty.  I can see the passion in each instructor as well as the patience.  It is much appreciated.  This program is a great stepping stone for the whole local hocky community and is very much needed.  Without you and the rest of the instructors being there to help each kid that steps on the ice, our local children would not have a significant outlet to learn the foundamentals for the sport of skating and hockey.   Sunday afternoons would not be the same in the winter without being at the arena to watch these children learn.  This is a fantastic program.  Keep up the great work.

My boys are learning the basic skating skills in a fun and safe atmosphere and I might add at a very reasonable cost to the parents.  It is through the volunteers at Ted Reeve that they have made this possible.

Three of my sons have been, and continue to be, enrolled in a number of your programs. With their youngest brother waiting in the wings, we look forward to continuing in many future seasons. All three sons have flourished in your programs, and special note must be made of the caring community coaches and volunteers that have helped introduce this great Canadian pastime to my children.  How fortunate we are to have your services in our community.   Introducing any sport to a family of four boys is difficult, especially hockey. Being a non-profit community based school allows us to introduce a great sport to our kids while being cost-effective.  Having not had skated nor played hockey as a child, I am fortunate to be able to draw on your school’s commitment to the game and community.  Thank you for providing, promoting, and teaching the fundamentals of skating and hockey, including sportsmanship and fair play, to the boys and girls of our community in a safe, accessible, and affordable environment.

Currently, both of our children take hockey skating lessons and enjoy it very much. We find this program is a very important part of this community and without it, many children would not be able to experience the joy of learning to skate.

Our son has been a participant at the hockey school on Sunday afternoons for past 4 years.  He is 11 years old and has learned many skills and developed his confidence over the course of time.  The instructors are very good and patient and the program enables him to participate in hockey with better skills.  The program is always different from week to week and challenging emphasizing different aspects of the game.  It is a good workout and is also fun and enables our son to interact with kids in the community.  We have been very happy with the program.

My son attends the Sunday hockey school and he really enjoys it.  The other hockey programs are unaffordable unless you are on a high income.  We would also like to commend the coaches/instructors who do an excellent job and are there in a volunteer capacity.

My son started at the Ted Reeve Arena skating and hockey school last year. The positive attitude started from day one.  The coaches were not only knowledgeable , but were supportive and enthusiastic with the children.  My son has improved greatly over the past two years in the skating and hockey school. However, he has gained much more than just increased skating and hockey skills.
He is more confident in himself on and off the ice. He has learned fair play and to play with respect to all players.  My son loves going to the skating and hockey school on Sunday afternoons and I love watching all the skills he has learned.
This is the best skating and hockey school we have been to. Not only price wise, but in the growth of confidence and skills for the children.

My son was 4 years old when he arrived to Canada in August 2007. In Septembre, he faced his first great Canadian adventure: fully equiped with his hockey armour, he entered an ice rink, the Ted Reeve one. He fell down many many times untill he made it. It took him just an hour. He was not alone that day. The incredible and supportive and kind instructors of the Ted Reeve Arena Skating Hockey School Incorporated were teaching him how to surive on the ice!  This is the third season Lucas attendss skate and hockey practice each Sunday of the season with these amazing guys.  Hockey on Sundays afternoon is already a classic for our family.

The “Skate I” program held at Ted Reeves on a Sunday midday last year greatly helped my son to learn to be a proficient skater.  He enjoyed the program and we were impressed with the program and coaches, this year we signed him up for the “Skate II” program followed by the “Hockey School” both held on Sunday starting at 12.45 and ending at 2.45, both these programs are wonderful, the coaches are doing a great job, the kids are having fun and learning a lot.   My son is getting a great workout and learning to play hockey.  This fall I hope to register him in the house league at Ted Reeve and to also continue with the “Hockey School” program on Sunday afternoon as I feel it is very beneficial.

My son is currently in the School and we will be registering our other son for next year’s program also.  The instructors and their assistants are both enthusiastic and patient, and they promote a love of skating in the girls and boys that they teach.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with the skating program offered by Ted Reeve Arena Skating and Hockey School.  This is our 6 year old son’s second year with the school.  His skating skills have developed considerably over the past 2 years which we attribute to the school and their awfully dedicated, knowledgeable, kind and encouraging instructors.   Every Sunday afternoon, we look forward as a family going to the arena and watching the kids skate.  We are also looking forward to seeing our younger son start the school for the 2010/2011 season.  This program is so important to our kids and the community.
