Yes. Full hockey equipment is required for all participants, regardless of skill level.
My child has never skated before. Is Skate 1 the right program?
Yes. Skate 1 is designed for beginner skaters ages 5 and up who are learning the fundamentals of skating. No previous skating or hockey experience is required.
My child can skate. How do I know if they’re ready for Skate 2/Hockey?
Skate 2/Hockey is intended for skaters who are already comfortable skating independently and have the minimum skating skills listed on our Session Info page. If you are unsure, our instructors will assess your child and determine the most appropriate placement.
What if my child is nervous or shy?
Many of our students are stepping onto the ice for the first time. Our experienced volunteer instructors create a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where children can learn at their own pace while building confidence and having fun.
Can my child bring a hockey stick to Skate 1?
No. Hockey sticks are required for Skate 2/Hockey participants only.
Does my child have to be 5 years old?
Yes. Participants must be at least 5 years of age by December 31 of the current season.
Are figure skates permitted?
No. Hockey skates are required for all participants. Figure skates and Velcro (ski-boot style) skates are not permitted.
Do parents or guardians need to stay during the session?
Yes. Parent/guardian attendance is mandatory before, during, and after all sessions. Ted Reeve Arena Skating-Hockey School is not a drop-off program. Parents and guardians must remain in the arena for the duration of their child’s session in case assistance is required.
Can parents or guardians go on the ice with their child?
No. Parents and guardians are not permitted on the ice during lessons. Our volunteer instructors work directly with the students throughout each session.
What should my child wear under their equipment?
Comfortable athletic clothing such as a long-sleeve shirt and athletic pants are recommended. Avoid bulky clothing, as it can affect the fit of the equipment.
Do you provide equipment?
No. Participants must supply their own properly fitted equipment.
What happens if my child misses a class?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer make-up classes or refunds for missed sessions.
